IMAGINATION

The book has a fragmented illustration of a horse on the cover (inspired by the story How to be both by Ali Smith with which the book begins). Throughout the book you can find 'snippets' of the cover (inspired by the poem Kruim (Crumbs) by Eva Gerlach with which the book opens). The back of the book shows the complete illustration of the horse. The book is folded with two flaps that literally give the book a head and a tail. Dog-ears indicate the interludes in the book. 

With this book about the relationship between imagination, perception and art, Onno Zijlstra invites us to look, look again and then look some more.

Art
A book about the relationship between imagination, perception and art would not be complete without inspiring works of art that stimulate the imagination, of course. Besides eleven intermezzos that highlight specific artists and/or art forms, the book also contains seven pictorial essays that illustrate Onno Zijlstra’s words. 

Onno Zijlstra is a Dutch philosopher. He obtained his doctorate from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam with a thesis on the philosophy and cultural criticism of the Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset. Onno Zijlstra taught philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit, ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and the Protestant Theological University. He lectures and teaches in the field of philosophy and aesthetics, and is a member of the Kierkegaard Works editorial board.
