[SHIFT]. Exploring Relationships between Artists and Technology in Education explores the interplay between technology and education within the arts. In doing so, it reveals the often-unnoticed structures of domination that influence our interactions with digital and educational environments. This book challenges the perceived neutrality of technology and proposes a radical rethinking of our relationships with the tools we use to create and learn.
This is a call to action. [SHIFT] encourages artists, educators and technologists to forge paths toward a more inclusive and equitable future. By engaging with the arts as a dynamic framework, this book offers experimental strategies for dismantling oppression and reimagining how we live and learn in a technology-driven world.
Ultimately, the reader is brought on a transformative journey to discover how we might coexist with technology and each other in a world free from traditional constraints.

Design Methodology
We chose not to focus on a specific end result but instead adopted a methodology and attitude that would lead to an outcome. In this approach, technology is seen as a partner with AI playing a crucial role. It doesn’t merely follow our directives. Instead, they engage in a dialogue with AI to shape a concept, aiming to understand each other’s methodologies for working. Can we be humble towards technology, or is it technology that should be humble towards us? Or might we eliminate hierarchy entirely?
They initiated dialogues with ChatGPT and crafted a dialogue that led to the brief for the design and illustrations by Jimmie Balster. The editorial decisions, including page numbering, table of contents, layout, and typography, were also made in collaboration with ChatGPT.
Illustrations
In the design process of this book, we collaborated with AI. Artist Jimmie Balster worked with input from ChatGPT, which was based on summaries from the chapters we wrote. She employed various materials, adding layers of meaning, much like our approach to writing the book. By incorporating AI and printing this book, we have utilised natural resources. We have strived to do so in the most sustainable way possible.
